Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Realize . You know, I really have to praise myself just this time round for being able to refrain myself from taking cabs back home almost everyday after work for the past year (not inclusive of the during poly-days) and not to mention, I actually enjoy taking buses because first, you can totally snooze once you're on board (provided you've a seat), second, there's really ALOT to see... you know, places that you've never thought existed on this island, popular spots that you see on TV and one day the bus you're in passes by the place and you go "OH! So here it is!" and third, you save MONEY! You see, I was doing the math one day and if I were to go with cabbing, I'd needa fork out abt 10 bucks a day and that'd be $200 a month and this could add up to $2.4K a year! With that money I can absolutely use it for other purposes which could in turn change for something/s better than those cabbing sessions that allow me to get home earlier by merely 15 minutes (the most). And if I buy the unlimited-rides bus concessions that costs $61, I'd save up $139 a month, that's about $1,668 a yr! Just these 2 yrs I can actually buy myself a brand new laptop! I'd even have remainder! In times like this, it's very wise to save up more or less unless you're filthy rich. And because I'm NOT, I'll have to watch my expenses very closely. I'm also glad that I've cut down on my very-frequent visits to the malls for RT because I thought, clothes are clothes... no matter how unique they seem to look, they're just clothes... maybe the collars are different, or the colours, the designs, shapes... I was looking at the amount of clothes in my wardrobe and I realised I didn't even know I actually bought some of them and haven't once donned them on at all! It's really funny cos I don't even remember! And I think it's rather pointless for a guy to have so many clothes cos it's either tees, long sleeves, shorts or pants unless I include dresses and skirts into my collection. I'd look pretty, no?? Fact is, I don't think it's wise to splurge on all these because I'm no celebrity so no one's gonna look at me and care about how I dress and it's simply cos I'm not the Dolce & Gabbana shirt or the Gucci pants, or the Prada bag or the Giorgio Armani shoes I wear. These are objects. And no one wants to be seen like an object. It's artificial. It's fake. It's plastic. Not authentic. And obviously those I can't afford. I won't deny I used to go for the branded goods and if I see something nice and if I want it, it meant I'll get my hands on that something without question and you know, expecting others to notice the new additions. But I think it's silly. Look, I could've saved so much and I actually feel really bad because those are my parents' hard-earned money and I'm spending as though they dropped from the sky. Although they neither nagged nor screamed, I can't help but feel the guilt. However, I'm really thankful to my folks for I feel very fortunate with what I have. I'm very happy to have learned not to take things (not just money) for granted. Things in life don't come easy. And if you don't cherish them or take control of what you have right now, it'll never come back once they slip off.
