Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Could this be... So if you noticed, the Earth actually revolves at this tremendous and hypersonic yet unnoticeable speed of about 1042 MPH to complete a rotation, and now we have it... a BRAND NEW DAY! How wonderful it is to be living in such an amazing Gaia, Solar System, or even, Galaxy such of the unknown. And in the mysterious galaxy, solar system of such, comes this terrestrial planet we call the "Gaia" (Greek for "Earth") ; this is where home is. In this wondrous home of ours, marvelous happenings surfaced and still very much do. And be blessed to be presented with this gift to witness the marvelment that somehow do not resist to surprise us of such. Though we're gifted to be allowed a place in this land of ours, we too aren't gifted to the extent of having such flimsy possibilities of witnessing in complexity the things that prevail in the parameters. But truth is, humans as ourselves are, aren't quite as bothered about the state of such as we should and could as time often doesn't permit us. Or perhaps, we just aren't at all bothered though given that we're quite labelled as the "clock managers" of our lives. Have I not told you, about 24 hours ago, I met a prodigy. Someone 3 times below my age. I met Ainan Celeste Cawley. If you haven't known of him, he was the front page news of the Straits Times on 23rd March 2007. Yes. He was the boy who surprised the nation by being awarded with an O'level cert for Chemistry. I did not know of this until I was told a day before by Rachel, a volunteer, that another new-comer, Syahidah, will be assisting in the cause and she'll be bringing her son. Apparently, Ainan is one of her 3 gifted sons. He is just 7 yo. He looked sullen. Seemed uninterested in the event. However, something caught my attention. His eyes. If you've thought he's just like any other kids who might've just encountered a bad morning, you'd probably give him a miss. But since I knew of his background, I couldn't help but scrutinised him. And his eyes. The way he sat down and looked around at the objects around him. You could tell somehow, that he's different. In an article I chanced upon last night, he was said to be probably the youngest Science teacher in the world, since he conducted a 1 hour Chemistry lecture of his own called "Acids and Alkalis in Everyday Life" last November at Bukit Timah Primary School. While I was getting to know his mom and all, I incidentally found out from her that before coming down to help, they actually were having a meeting with the Head of the Division of Material Sciences, Associate Professor Tim White at NTU. They're (the parents) on a mission to look for a fully-equipped lab for Ainan to pursue his Chem practicals. Can you imagine, a child, just 7, to be given the entire lab just for his scientific researches? And what's more, I learned from Syahidah (his mom), that he's going to be taking his A'levels soon. He's also self-learning on Physics. It was like I couldn't believe my ears. But, that's not all yet. I was curious about how they knew of Ainan's prodigious side. And what I've got to know from Syahidah, was that, Ainan spoke his first words at 2 weeks of his life. You read it right. It is 2 WEEKS. He learned how to ask for "Water" in Malay (mom's Malay, dad's Irish). Though presented with such heaven-sent gifts, Syahidah was ever so humble as she could be. And because she was to distribute the fliers, Ainan then offered to help. But what's interesting, is that he took just minutes to empty his hands before replenishing with a new pile while it almost took the few of us forever to do the same task. Perhaps a child could charm his way through things like that. However, Ainan is not just an ordinary child.
