Monday, April 16, 2007 Amazing People @ Amazing Hospital Today, I tagged along with some of the Ben & Jerry's people as a social worker with Amazing Kidz to Alexandra Hospital for a free-cone-day-cum-fundraising experience. Okay, first, if you're wondering what this free cone thingy is all about, read on. FCD, or in simple terms, Free Cone Day, is the B&J's way of thanking B&J lovers island wide for your, their, whoever's support. It's an annual thing btw. And as of what Amazing Kidz (AK) is all about, it's basically a charity for brain-injured children with disorders of neurological origin and those with intellectual disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome and etc. So, we're joining hands with B&J to raise awareness and funds for the services AK is currently running for the kids. Bleaaghhhh! Alrighty, so today was fun. Only 2 hrs. But fun. And bright. Bright not as if I was referring to the weather which wasn't at all bright if you'd ask since I did witness some drizzle wizzle in the afts. But bright as in relation to the context of the expressive modes. The people were "bright". Free ice-cream, faces turn bright. Ben&Jerry's get known to those who thought of their absence in this world, bright prospects for the Co. in near future. Faces turn bright once tongues caress the icy formation of creams, moods turn bright and so does the chances of cream-goers picking out some moolahs for the cause which will very much make the lives of these children brighter. (Collectively, there're about 21,000 of such children but AK's serving only about 110 of them.) I must say the B&J staff were really down-to-earth, and so were the AH people, how one would feel so at home with their presence (of course, a hospital is never a home!), and how funny they really were. Literally. Speaking of hospital, Alexandra has never been on my "Visited" list. Today marks the first. And of all the stories about it, it's pretty modernised and I love its colonial structure which isn't very much gonna stay long soon as they'll be heading North. But of course, it comes the part of the other stories of not just how it looks, but rather, what it contains other than just doctors, nurses, workers, visitors... where we're left just wondering in the mist. All in all, the cause is worthy. So worth it. And i'm looking forward to tomorrow. It's gonna be a long day. Now I'm just half-alive while I try to churn out readable words to form readable phrases and sentences which in turn make the language look readable and right. Okay. Oh My God. It's staring. Bed-spells. I can sense them. Engulfing me. SOS! Whatever it is or not what, head down to the B&J outlets (Suntec, Raffles City, United Sq, Great World & Cathay) for free cones! 12-7pm! REMEMBER! And why should you. Be'cos free things don't come by so often and as Singaporeans we are, it's so-known-well that such do not slip off that conveniently till it gets into you. ENJOY! freed his mind P.Y.R.A - U.G.I.N.E at 11:22 PM [comment] Life is beautiful, so are you.
