Wednesday, June 14, 2006 Constant Drills Make Me Sick Oh my...Oh my...OH MY! Work today was plain boring! I've been trying to drill the accounts in our integrated accounting system almost the entire day, but to no avail. This system SUCKS! And I practically dozed off in the midst of the task. How great is that?? But I was drowsy since the moment I took my flu med. So the enzymes and some other chemical acids must have contributed to my fatigue. On regular basis, Lynn and I call this overtaxation the "PLS" = "Post-Lunch Syndrome". And PLS, consumes our bodies everyday...especially when you dread going back to work right after a hearty meal. Yesterday, I was meditating in front of my monitor when Diana barked "EUGENE!". Tell ya, that gave me a stroke! And Lynn instantly burst into laughter. THANK YOU LAI TAI TAI... ...NOT!!! This afternoon, I was about to take a catnap when the alarm sprang to life at ear-splitting levels. IT'S A FIRE DRILL!!! Can you believe it? Like at 4.30PM?? That's an hour before knocking off! So the occupants in the entire Treasury were forced to evacuate the fire-free building. Before that, one of my colleagues, Poh Choo, screamed "Quick! Empty your bladders before running away!" and then sped off to the ladies. HAHAHA!!! That was really hysterical. However, everyone seemed to take their own sweet time. Thankfully, we were located on the 4th storey, which barred us from complaining about descending stairs. I was wondering how the children from the 11th storey child-care was going to make it if a fire really broke out. But Poh Choo mentioned about her experience of evacuating her previous office, which was at the 49th storey of some anonymous building. That's CRAZY! Obviously, we made it to ground level and out of the building, only to witness a fire engine parked near the entrance. No worries, it's a drill afterall! Gary then pointed out that even if there was a fire, the fire station is just across the street. How close is that! We assembled at the grassland next to MICA (if you know where I'm talking about). Don't be silly, you don't believe we lined up, do you? The passers-by must be puzzled to see hundreds of working people scattered all over the usually-deserted land. Yes, it's a great time waster! We could have finished our work and left on time. But when do we ever leave on the dot? Of course recently, Diana and I confabulated and agreed to flee as soon as our SAD takes off, so that we won't have to face our longwinded DD (Deputy.Dir). If you were in our shoes, you'd admit that she's very FAN! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...... freed his mind P.Y.R.A - U.G.I.N.E at 7:45 PM [comment] Life is beautiful, so are you.
