Wednesday, February 15, 2006 LOVE IS A FORCE OF NATURE. Yes it definitely is. Though love comes in many ways, some were artlessly showered upon us, while some of them are left untouched. It was Valentines' Day yesterday. So took full advantage of this special occasion to stoke the ember? I bet. Well, it would be Valentines' Day for every couple even on an ordinary day, not to be on the day itself specifically. No, I did not have a date going on last night, but I certainly have to mark this date down... It was the day I read and watched one of the most beautiful tales ever told so openly. Yes, you might have guessed it right away... It's Brokeback Mountain. Brokeback Mountain is an honest, impervious romance about two men spliced together with simplistic grace from a herd of hired hands. A love that bloomed on the mountain. When I read the short novel by Annie Proulx, I was thrilled by how she could channel such an epic love story to the audience. I'm not going to give away that much, but I could tell you the movie itself caused me buckets of tears... Yeah, consider me exaggerating, suit yourself. The movie was a greater impact. I've never felt so attached to a movie like that. It presented love as a very human need, something that transcends the borders of humanity itself. It shows the very raw emotions when love is prevented from happening, when each and everything stands in your way but without the support of family and often, friends. Loneliness was the factor of profoundity in this movie. Fear was another. I was entirely floored with how eloquent and subtle Ang Lee's direction was and the way the shots flowed so precisely and seamlessly into one another, where the progression was comforting, and in no way at all tiresome. Ang Lee accomplished an unhurried aura in the film which was sentimentally blended with simplistic, yet infectious scores. The spectacular scenery of Alberta (not Wyoming) is just breathtaking. The stellar performance of the characters are not to be neglected as well. And I truly salute Heath and Jake for their courage to take on such risky roles. Really. Those who have brutally defined this as the "gay cowboy" movie have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Yes sure enough, two men fell in love, but more specifically two human beings are in love. It's not about "gay". No. It's about love. It's about us. It's about humans. It's about life. It's about longing for something so badly before fear engulfed the very last hope and leaves you with trails of emptiness. The story transcends beyond just homosexuality to describe love that is universal. Love that is forbidden. Know that in an ideal world of our own, people can live everywhere and do anything they want and love whoever they wish... That world never exist. Why do people have to suffer so much just for loving someone? Something that is so ingrained in all of us. Ask yourself. Brokeback Mountain is beyond gripping. It's haunting. An Oscar-worthy film without doubt. Definitely made history. Just after watching the movie, it creeps me that in life, there are so many steps we have to ascend, 10, 20, 30 years down the road... what's installed for each and everyone one of us on this long and winding road. I wonder. Watch this movie not for the homosexual theme, but for the sake of witnessing a beautifully heartfelt story. It sticks with you like it does to me. "I wish I knew how to quit you". P.S: You ain't turning queer after Brokeback Mountain. R21? Bullshit. freed his mind P.Y.R.A - U.G.I.N.E at 7:48 PM [comment] Life is beautiful, so are you.
