Wednesday, January 25, 2006 Geisha Bore Rumors said that Memoirs of A Geisha stirred up some controversial issues, especially in Mainland China. But this was one story that was so enlightening. One that told us of a story so rare most of us have never heard before. I was introduced to this book by Mr. Hans and Miss. Virjun. Initially I thought "Oh, this one's gonna be such a BORING novel, ain't reading it..." But since so many people read it and reckoned that it's good, I thought it was time I lay my eyes on it. And I was proven wrong. It was indeed a magnificent read. Arthur Golden managed to capture every single information about the life of a Geisha and I thought I admired his work. The brilliant number of years he took to gather information from his research all the way across the Pacific Ocean. Interviewing real Geisha and understanding their lives. Absorbing the considerable amount of information and penning on a novel as though he himself was a Geisha. Impressive. Never mistaken a Geisha as a prostitute though they do sell their mizuage (chastity). And so you might think that the movie would be quite on par as compared to the book itself. However, NO. The movie did not explain thoroughly the meaning behind every movement and hell no did they capture any emotions as well. I was left pondering on the characters' parts. There were just too many changes. I totally did not adapt to the movie as well as I did to the book. Whatever questions you have will be answered in the book. Well, for those who have not watched, I reckon you shouldn't. No spoilers here. But even the movie itself does not show the spoiler. Plus, Sayuri had a better ending than what the movie has shown. Tsk Tsk. My Rating: 5.5/10. Some random snapshots... . WOW, LO-MAN-TIC! . Oh, Yihan! . EWW. . . Haha! So what do you think he resemble? . Oranges, anyone? . First Love?? . OH MY! . . Work it, WORK IT!
